Opportunity Class (OC)
HURSTVILLE P.S OC ORIENTATION DAY FOR 2010 OC STUDENTS
The acceptance letter for the OC Orientation, to be held on Thursday 19 November, in the Main Hall from 9:30am, is attached below.
Please bring along with you:
- proof of residency
- letter of offer
You will be able to enrol your child after the orientation or at your convenience, before the first school day in 2010 (Thursday 28 January 2010).
Enrolment forms can be found in the information package that you will receive on the day.
We look forward to meeting you there.
The Learning Program
- Addresses all Key Learning Areas
- Offers stimulating and enriching content through challenging activities
- Develops higher order thinking skills and provides opportunities for creative problem solving
- Involves students in activities such as investigations, research projects, reports, debates and discussions
- Promotes a stimulating atmosphere for socialisation with intellectual peers
Other Learning Opportunities
- Leadership training – through the Student Representative Council and group work within class time.
- Enrichment Programs / Intellectual Challenges – Jason Project, Maths Olympiad, links with high schools, opportunities for learning and using critical thinking.
- Oracy Skills- emphasis on oral skills through Public Speaking and Debating
- Competitions – access to school based and non – school based competitions
- Italian – a two year program which develops and consolidates skills
- Performing Arts Groups – band, choir and dance groups and organised creative arts activities during a time-tabled section of a nominated day.
- Sport – PSSA sports include cricket, softball, oztag, soccer and netball. School sport focuses on skill building and games.
- School Workshops and Visits – performances from visiting groups
- Excursions – regular excursions to enrich the learning program.
- E-Learning – enrichment through technology
Expectations of an OC child
- Homework - Students need to be responsible for the completion of homework assignments to the best of their ability
- Participation – Students are expected to participate in all class activities, excursions, a variety of extracurricular activities and competitions
- Independence – Students are expected to display independence in completing work and carrying out tasks
- Application - Students are expected to consistently strive to achieve
- Dedication – Students need to be dedicated to achieving their personal best
- Cooperation – Students are expected to develop mature, cooperative skills through group work
