There are a variety of extra curricular programs running within our school to cater to the academic, social and emotional needs of our students.
The table below outlines the programs offered at Hurstville Public School.
Band
Hurstville Public has a well established band program that has been part of our school for many years. The band program is coordinated by Engadine Music. Instruments can be hired from the school for a reasonable cost. We have a training and a concert band. Students in the band have small group tutorials each Friday to learn new material and techniques specific to their instrument.
The bands are in demand to perform during the year at various events and competitions. They perform at the Hurstville Zone Music Festival, Presentation Days, OC Orientation Days and for community groups.

Choir
The choir aims to encourage students to increase their musical knowledge and improve their self- esteem through performing as a group through singing.
All the choirs perform at various festivals and events throughout the year.
Dance Groups
We have both a Junior and Senior Dance Groups and a Chinese Dance Group who perform at various festivals and events during the school year.

PSSA Sport Programs
At Hurstville Public School the students are given the opportunity to participate in a number of P.S.S.A sports throughout the year.
P.S.S.A enables the students to be involved in a competition event with other schools in the local area.
P.S.S.A encourages and promotes positive team sporting experiences in a friendly, fun, environment.

Debating and Public Speaking Competitions
Students in Stage 3 are given the opportunity to join the debating team. These teams meet at lunch times and practice the important skills of public speaking and debating. Students then participate in inter school debating tournaments such as the Premier's Debating Competition.
All students K-6 have the opportunity to participate in public speaking competitions such as the St. George Public Speaking Competition and showcase their skills.

Chess Club
Chess club is open to students in Stage 3. Two groups meet weekly, Beginners and Advanced. Students use basic to advanced strategies to compete in a round robin tournament, culminating in a championship match.
